Hepatitis
viruses cause inflammation of the liver (viral
hepatitis) with acute and chronic courses. The chronic hepatitis may
progress to cirrhosis of the liver and further to carcinoma of the liver
finally. There are 6 types of hepatitis viruses identified at present
(1998), named A, B, C, D, E, and G, respectively.
