Repeated
laboratory tests are needed for the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis.
Serum ALT, AST usually show different degree of elevation, however, they
may be within normal range. Normal value does not mean the hepatitis is
inactive,
and the degree of elevation only reflects the severity of liver cell
damage at the time of the test, but does not predict the prognosis of the
disease.
Serum albumin is synthesized only in the liver, therefore its serum level
reflects the functional reserve of the liver. Serum globulin level
reflects the damage of reticuloendothelial system in the liver.
